Engagement: James + Nicole

Of course, being my forgetful self, I completely forgot to post a set of photos from James & Nicole’s engagement shoot! I owe special thanks to Kiks & Misha (whom we all miss terribly!) who were at the shoot with me. :)

Favorite from the set! I just love the negative space with this one.

Engagement: Justin + Gilainne

Design work and teaching are what have been keeping me busy these past weeks, that I sorely miss taking photos. I’ve barely picked up my camera this summer which is a little depressing, but thankfully I have Tricia as a friend! I’ve been spending the past couple of weeks in her company helping her out with her blog photos, but perhaps my favorite “collaboration” with her—if you can call it that—was taking engagement photos of her cousin Gilainne & her fiancé Justin!

They were such a delight to shoot; they were naturals! Tricia and I couldn’t help but feel all giddy every now and then. You could tell there really is strong chemistry between them. A lot of my shots are actually candid, like the first photo here!

You can’t help but fall in love with these two if you were there with us taking photos of them. You can clearly see that the love is really there.

I honestly can’t get over how lovely these photos turned out. I guess it helps when everything is genuine—not just the love, but even how they smile and how they touch. Nothing felt posed, which is one thing I absolutely love in shoots like this.

We were lucky to have had cooperative weather, as well. LOOK AT THAT GORGEOUS SUNLIGHT!

While it was a refreshing change of pace to be shooting people, I think it’s time for me to return to my food photography. As much as I do enjoy doing shoots like this, I can never forget what I love the most.

I had a lengthy talk with some really good friends tonight about work ethics, and I somehow realized I need to get back on my feet and just keep shooting (food!), regardless of the presence of client work. Staying active keeps me on my feet, meaning I’m continuously moving towards getting better at my craft, and keeps my brain churning them creative juices. I feel like I haven’t been as inspired as I used to, so I’m making a conscious effort to remedy that, and throwing myself back into the ocean that is food photography.

After all, if my love for photography is as genuine as the love Justin & Gilainne share, then I know that no matter what I do, it will always find me no matter how far I start to drift and pull me back.

It’s been such a stressful week so far, and we’re only half-way through it! I’m pretty close to burning myself out, but that’s not an option, so I de-stress by doing things unrelated to work.
Tricia invited me to come over and shoot with her just this Monday! We took pictures of her cousin Gilainne and her fiancé Justin who both live in Australia, but are having their wedding here in the Philippines! They were such a pleasure to shoot, they were both such naturals! And it goes without saying that they’re also a good-looking couple.
I was swamped with work and errands today, that I stopped working for a while and decided to start post-processing their photos. It was a breath of fresh air, that I wished I could just keep doing this until I finished everything!
While I was working on their pictures, I was thinking about the past few days. I hung out at Tricia’s last Monday and Tuesday, and a lot of what we talked about was weddings, couples, and love, due to the photography work that we’ve been doing.
I realized that at the end of the day, no matter how stressful the world seems, we just have to remember that in spite of all the things that could possibly lead to metaphorical spontaneous combustion, there’s a lot of love in the world as well, and it will always make you feel better, regardless of how it comes. Stress is temporary and fleeting, while love persists, all the time. <3

My most recent prenup shoot was last December, and I’ve been itching to share my favorites! I’ve got the all-clear to post this one, so yay! :)

FS/API post-nuptial behind the scenes

image

I don’t really know if this is counted as “post-nuptial”, since…the weddings are over. Haha! But anyway, FS/API is the name of their barkada, but I won’t elaborate on what it stands for anymore. Inside joke. Hahaha!

Anyway, my cousin Troy and his best friends all got married this year (save for one of them who isn’t here), and a month apart from each other, so they thought it would be worth documenting in this fashion. It was a very cute idea!

The main photos were actually taken with Troy’s camera, and I took more BTS with mine. Those main photos will probably be up in a separate post. :)

It must be exciting when your friends start getting married. I’m 24, and it just dawned on me that my generation is starting to transition from 18th birthdays to weddings. I know of a couple of my friends who’ve gotten married recently! Really makes me feel like we really aren’t teenagers anymore.

image

image

I can say, though, that I’m still a ways away from putting on that big white dress (probably won’t be that big, though, haha). While Kiks and I have been together for almost 8 years now, and all our friends are already pestering us when the big day is, it just…isn’t happening anytime soon, for a number of reasons. SORRY GUYS, HAHA.

image

But anyway, it’s exciting to know that I have friends who are getting married! First of all, I love going to weddings. There are just so many photo opportunities, for one. Haha! Second, it really is a beautiful thing to witness, whether it happens in a church, or on the beach, or in a garden, or wherever. It’s also nice to see friends all dressed up nicely in fancy dresses and fancy shoes.

image

I’ve been taking more pictures of engaged/married couples lately, and I’m enjoying it so far! I hope my friends get me to take their photos in the future, hee! I would love nothing more!

I honestly love taking more candid shots like this than posed ones, haha! So much more kilig in it, hahaha. :) I also get to practice my trigger finger reflexes (a.k.a. stalker skills), hohoho.

Anyhow, we shot this on the last day of the year, and it was certainly a great way to end 2012. With photography, good vibes, and much love. :)

* * *

Thanks to Troy + Jessica, Ray + Love Lynne, and Pawie + Simone. :)

The first of many — Nicky & James!
The couple finally posted their wedding announcement on Facebook using one of the photos I took during my shoot with them. Hurray! More pictures as soon as they start posting the rest. :)

I know I haven’t been posting as much as I used to, and I apologize profusely! To make up for it, here is a photo from the Troy & Jessica prenup/engagement shoot. I know it’s been more than a week since they got married, but I still can’t get over how wonderful everything was. :)
Anyway, the reason for my lack of activity is that I’ve been busy with a lot of things as of late. I’ve been shooting a lot lately — had another engagement shoot just last Sunday (pictures hopefully soon!), Tender Blender clients, freelance photography work (I’ll let you in on this next month!), and of course shooting for myself.
Thank goodness for my Favorite Food Friday project, as I have at least one post every week! I’m planning on introducing a new twist for my project, but we’ll see if I can actually push through with it.
And speaking of projects, do follow our Tender Blender blog if you aren’t yet! We started a new weekly project as well, called Food for Thought. Basically, we post some tips and tricks for food photography, whether with a camera or even with a small mobile device! If that tickles your fancy, then we invite you to check it out! We’re only on our first entry, but a new one will be posted tomorrow morning! Looks like this is going to be a Thursday thing. :)
Anyhow, I can’t wait to share what I’ve been up to! Soon, I promise. If I’m not eaten up by work.
